Are donations Tax Deductible?

Yes. Donations over $2 for the relief of poverty in developing countries are tax deductible. Donation for Non-Development purposes such as for the building of churches are NOT tax deductible.

Where does my donation go?

ASMOAF supports various Salesian projects in developing countries. It is our policy that funds are distributed in accordance with the wishes of donors. ASMOAF respects the wishes of donors in determining the direction of their gift.

Who are Salesian Missions Australia?

Salesian Missions Australia was founded in the 1960’s and is part of the Salesians of Don Bosco – Australia-Pacific Province (Salesian Society (Vic) Inc.). The Salesians of Don Bosco are an international organisation of Catholic priests and brothers dedicated to the service of the young, especially the disadvantaged and marginalised.

What does ASMOAF mean?

We operate under the legal name, Australian Salesian Mission Overseas Aid Fund (ASMOAF), but more commonly known as Salesian Missions Australia. ASMOAF is a Trust Fund owned and operated by Salesian Society (Vic) Inc.

What is Salesian Missions Australia’s Mission?

Our Mission is to support the vocational teaching of underprivileged young people in developing countries, for employment opportunities and self-sufficient contributing members of their nation.

What is the function of the Salesian Missions Office?

Our primary function is to assist Salesians in developing countries in their work for the alleviation of poverty and the promotion of development, by providing funds through the generosity of donors for Don Bosco schools which are well regarded in their local communities.

What projects or work do Salesian Missions Australia support?

Salesian projects / works include schools (academic, technical, agricultural), school luncheon programs, orphanages, workshops for unemployed youth, emergency programs and accommodation for street children, drilling for water, running dispensaries and aiding the disadvantaged.

Aid and services are also provided directly to people in need of benevolent relief from human poverty, sickness or helplessness as a result of natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, droughts and floods.

Which countries do Salesian Missions Australia support?

We have supported projects in a range of countries including Cambodia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Fiji, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Sudan, South Sudan, Swaziland, Timor Leste and Vietnam. As we are part of the Salesians of Don Bosco – Australia – Pacific Province; it is our responsibility also to take care of our Pacific neighbours, Samoa and Fiji.

Why do we spend money on Administration?

Salesian Missions Australia make every effort to keep administration costs low. We acknowledge that robust financial and administrative systems are needed to ensure we serve the poor in the most efficient, effective and transparent way. Administration fees allow us to comply with the Australian Taxation Office, Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and ACFID’s Code of Conduct. This is essential for a sustainable and accountable organisation and gives you the peace of mind that your donation is being used how you intended – to help the underprivileged in developing nations build a better future, through education and vocational training.

Does Salesian Missions sell their Database?

No. Salesian Missions Australia is committed to protecting the privacy of donors and correspondents. All information provided remains private and confidential. The donor database is not rented, sold or exchanged.
